Over the past weekend it was a great privilege and joy to gather with our community to conduct prayer walks at nine Mooresville Graded School District schools and honor a young Mooresville High School student and football player through the Gavin Sharpe Prayer-a-Thon. Gavin was a young man that loved the L Jesus, his family, church, Mooresville High School friends, and our community. Since many have face concerns such as depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, stressful environment, low academic performance and more, prayer warriors showed up to pray for students (many were with us), parents, teachers/administration, school boards, coaches, counselors, resource officers, staff, and bus drivers.
Prayers Warriors were at Mooresville High School, Mooresville Middle School, Mooresville Intermediate School, Rocky River Elementary, East Mooresville Intermediate, NF Woods Campus, Park View Elementary, South Elementary, and via ZOOM meeting. Gavin’s mother shared a heartfelt message with us about Gavin’s heart for ministry, his love and care for those around him, Gavin’s servant heart, and that he desired to be the next Billy Graham. Kim really challenged us to pray for students and show gratitude to our educators. Fellowship of Christian Athletes, pastors in our community, school teachers/administration, students and parents joined us on these school properties, and students led devotions and prayers at these events. Laurie Pluck, FCA Director of North Metro Charlotte, shared a powerful message on the “Battlefield of the Mind.” Ashlyn Sharpe, Gavin’s sister, led beautiful worship in honor of her brother and other students. Gavin’s life verse was Philippians 2:3, and he lived it well. “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” Together let’s continue to pray for the Sharpe family in the loss of Gavin and for our Mooresville schools and students.
One of the most beautiful moments was seeing students and staff showup in their Gavin Strong #63 shirts and the students from Fellowship of Christian Athletes uniting in prayer and worship under one of the most beautiful oak trees, which is a symbol of strength and longevity. Coach Watson, the F.C.A. advisor, shared how much he loved his students, their passion for Christ, and willingness to serve their school and community.
If any Mooresville High School Student wants to get involved with Fellowship of Christian of Athletes, then they are welcome to connect with Coach Ben Watson (email@example.com) or Jeramy Smith (firstname.lastname@example.org) and join their peers on Thursday mornings at 6:45AM in the gym.
